A little over two weeks into our move and it still feels like we're on vacation. I still have to remind myself that it's okay to get settled in, this is our home now. It's very strange. Even Brian, who is working full-time, feels like it's a vacation. We're not homesick yet but I'm definitely not looking forward to that feeling when it inevitably arrives.
So, how is everything else lately?
Well, it seems the cats have finally settled in. Granted, Felix was fine from the beginning but Steve no longer hides away in the bathroom when the ceiling fan is on. So that's a huge improvement. I think he saw it as a predator or something? I'm not sure, he's weird. All three kitties have explored the backyard a little bit and naturally, Purrl ventures out the farthest.
Quentin has now slept all the way through the night 3 times, so hopefully that is a permanent thing, soon. He's a bit under the weather right now and naps have been hell, so I'm not feeling confident. Good thing he's so cute!
We set up his crib last night and then I got all emotional (of course) about my baby being too big for his bassinet and pack n' play. People say it all the time, but they really do grow up too fast. He sits up by himself, has started to feed himself a little bit, he said "ba" yesterday. I know, I know. He's practically a genius.
Mother's Day started off with Brian making me pancakes and bacon and the three of us eating at the table together. It was perfect. He surprised me with flowers and a gift card for a mani/pedi which I will absolutely be taking advantage of soon. The rest of the day, Quentin had a mild fever and was miserable, so it was definitely not a relaxing day. We went across the street to Jenny and Dave's for a little get-together and were at least able to pass around the babe so we could have a break (and some alcohol).
Being a parent is a lot of work. (Just call me Captain Obvious). But really. It's the hardest thing in the world. At the same time, it's also the most wonderful and fulfilling thing in the world. Even on his fussiest days, being Quentin's mama is a privilege, and the magnitude of that privilege is not lost on me.
Anyway, you're probably wondering about Brian. He's doing great at his new job! He really likes his coworkers and is starting to get settled in now that the onboarding process is done. When he's not at work, Brian is busy being a great dada and husband. He's changing Quentin's diaper right now and I can hear them having a little conversation. It's so sweet to listen to. Granted, Q is mostly growling, but still.
I have a mom-date next week with a woman I met on an app called Peanut. It feels painfully like Tinder but I don't have any friends here and we both swiped right so I'm embracing it. Hopefully she's not a murderer!
More next week...
